8 Simple Ways to Enhance Your Physical, Mental & Spiritual Health

Lately, as I’ve been diving deeper into my meditation studies, I've been reading the book How God Changes Your Brain—and wow, it’s fascinating! I was especially intrigued by what the authors describe as the eight simple ways to nurture and elevate your physical, mental, and spiritual health. These practices aren’t complicated, but they’re powerful—and most of them are all things that I already talk about for longevity.  Start small—choose one or two practices to focus on this week, and notice how your body, mind, and spirit begin to thrive!

1. Faith
Believing in something greater than yourself—whether it’s God, a higher power, or a sense of purpose—can reduce stress, build resilience, and nurture spiritual growth.

2. Dialogue with Others
Deep, meaningful conversations stimulate your brain, strengthen relationships, and help you process thoughts and emotions.

3. Aerobic Exercise
Moving your body—whether it’s walking, dancing, or practicing yoga—boosts brain health, releases feel-good chemicals, and supports long-term cognitive function.

4. Meditate
Daily meditation calms the mind, reduces anxiety, and strengthens your ability to focus. Even just a few minutes a day can make a difference!

5. Yawn
Yes, really—yawning isn’t just for sleepyheads! It relaxes the brain, increases alertness, and can even enhance empathy.

6. Consciously Relax
Take time to breathe deeply, soften tension, and let go. This resets your nervous system and promotes emotional balance.

7. Stay Intellectually Active
Keep learning, exploring, and expanding your mind—read, take classes, and challenge yourself. Lifelong learning keeps your brain engaged and sharp.

8. Smile
Smiling not only lifts your mood but also rewires your brain for positivity. Even when you don’t feel like it, a simple smile can shift your energy.

Let me know what you focus on this week (mine will be yawning!!) —let’s nourish our minds, bodies, and spirits together!
